A short biography of Belamis ベラミス

(Belamis on the animator's drawing board, in her civilian clothes before she became a cyborg)

ベラミス Belamis was a cyborg warrior from the planet Gariusu ガリウス星, which met its destruction when the Galaxy energy deteriorated (see background of Starzinger).

After loosing her home planet, her friends and family, she became a lone wanderer in space in her fighter space jet, with only a cat-like pet to be her companion.

At episode 36 of Starzinger she was caught in a electromagnetic space storm and was forced landed on a planet, where by coincidence, Kugo and friends were also forced landed.

Belamis and Kugo had a fight but it was a friendly one.

It turned tragic when the evil army of Queen Lacets attacked. Kugo fled on his probe but its wings chipped a rock which hit Belamis' pet and killed it. Loosing her companion again, a distraught Belamis was back to her lonely wander before she joined Queen Lacets' army and became captain -- after Queen Lacets deceived Belamis to believe that she was to build a paradise for all who lost their planets.
Longing to such ideals, Belamis worked at the wrong side and was put in opposing trajectory with Kugo.

Despite working for the evil side, many times she demonstrated her integrity and compassion character - refusing to play dirty but by being knightly, and would not harm innocent or helpless people -- which even earned the respect of Kugo, Djorgo called her an worthy opponent.

Queen Lacets, angry at Belamis refusal to follow her orders, plotted against her (Episode 46). Even the King's commanders wanted her life (Episode 48).
Belamis' fine leadership made her the head commander of both the King's and Queen Lacets army and space fleet.

However, Belamis gradually realized that she was deceived and being used by Queen Lacets for her agenda. Yet, Belamis could not bring herself to leave Queen Lacets because she projected her love to her lost mother on Queen Lacets, until Queen Lacets was killed in a mutiny, she reluctantly let go, and begin her days of lonely wander in space again (Episode 50 and 51).

After she realized she served an evil regime, she attempted to redeem herself by fighting with the last of that regime - the son of キングギューマ, kinku (King) -- who is a strong cyborg (Episode 56).

In Episode 59, it was Belamis at her best -- compassionate, brave and clever.
If only she and Kugo was like that when they first met.
Belamis and Kugo fought alongside as perfect partners and comrades, and had a chance to make peace with Kugo, but she wanted to settle their unfinished duo first.

In Episode 64, Belamis gave her life to destroy the "Monster of Light" (a monster made up of electromagnetic particles) by flying her jet into the mouth of the monster, to deliver her electromagnetic sword to it. In doing so she took several direct hit from the power blasts from the monster and was wounded. There was a great explosion and she was never seen again....
(I never forget the grief I felt when I first watched the scene...I think many fans of Starzinger agreed that was the saddest scene of all)
