I have seen a comment on the last (and fateful) episode for Belamis -- her love with Kugo was poignant.
I could not agree more. Kugo loved Belamis in his heart, but he might not realize that this was a romantic attraction until it was too late.
After their first encounter, Kugo checked about Belamis' home planet Gariusu anxiously. There were at least a few things about Belamis' that attracted Kugo:
(a) Belamis was one opponent that Kugo could not win right away
(b) Her fighting style was glamourous and agile
(c) Her demeanor was confident and at times difficult to approach - Belamis always had her shades of her helmet down when she fought, so that her eyes were covered, making it difficult for others to see her emotions from her eyes
(d) She displayed compassion and concern to him and Hakka - her face without the shades showed that she was a person warm at heart, her eyes conveyed a lot of her inside feelings
(e) She was remarkably beautiful, tall and fit - and also project an air of confidence and self-assurance that was rare
The more Kugo encountered with her, the more Kugo understand her. Belamis might want to fight with him, and at times try to capture Princess Aurora, but Kugo found that he could reason with her, and Belamis would call a truce to their fight if there were people that need help.
She did it once when she saved a group of aliens, and she also called off the attacking Lacets fleet from a peaceful planet (Queen Lacets ordered the attack behind her, when she only ordered the fleet to kept watch on Kugo et al when they were landed at that planet).
Gradually Kugo developed respect to her, and also cared a lot about her well being - he wept for her when he thought he perished along with the exploed Planet Lacets -- this was a clear sign that he was attached to her.
I think by episode 59, when the pair fought alongside, most people were hoping that Belamis found her a new future, a way to go, and perhaps be part of Kugo's life... I don't think anyone expected Belamis to die at episode 64.
Their love was truly one developed and experienced twist and turns -- it never had a chance to germinate into a real romantic relationship, with Belamis holding back her love to Kugo .... perhaps of guilt ? perhaps she never thought she had any chance and believing that Kugo loved the Princess ?
In my opinion, Belamis was more sexy, attractive and beautiful then the Princess (fans of the Princess will disagree).
